5 Under the Radar

About

After 14 years, I left newspaper journalism. Newshole shrinks; advertising takes the space of nation/world news. If Jan Brady were in journalism today, she’d quip “Local, local, local! Why is it always local?” If the world were truly local this would be no problem. Truth is, we’re hardly insular. Try telling that to the mega-media monsters determining that all you want to read is local news every day. With each post on this blog, I’ll aim to find five news stories that likely flew under the radar of your newspaper. Some warrant a serious read; others will serve to amuse.

Thanks for the blog site! We miss you in the paper! You are now bookmarked on my internet favorites!

BTW, Happy news, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report return tonight (1/7/08) on Comedy Central. It will be interesting to see how Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert do without writing, especially Colbert; whose blow-hard character is mostly penned by his writers. No matter, I’ve missed these shows for 2 months! Good luck to Jon and Stephen, and Good Luck to the writers.

Kudos to Wegmans for ending tobacco sales! A trend that should spread like wildfire. Now, if they would only take Red Bull and the like off their shelves as well.

I’m lovin’ your blogs. Never have I found the news to be of such interest.

Loved the bit about the Breaking News!!! That has always been a pet peeve of mine with my own paper. At least they have the decency not to e-mail me the breaking news alerts if they are only about belly dancing classes….
