World: After a group of suspected terrorists were rounded up in Spain last week, several European countries were put on alert for possible terror attacks during Pakistani President Pervez Musharaff’s visit this week, the Times of London reports. Countries on alert include France, Britain and Portugal — all told to prepare for “imminent attacks.” The explosive found in the raids, triacetone triperoxide, was the same explosive shoebomber Richard Reid was ready to use.

World: Reuters reports that Russia’s armed forces Chief of Staff Yuri Baluyevski said that to protect his country’s sovereignty “Russia will use its armed forces, including nuclear weapons, and it can do it pre-emptively.”

World: Saudi businesswomen blame their government, not the traditions of Islam, for the unequal rights they have, the Saudi Gazette reports. The comments came during a United Nations panel on women’s rights.

Nation: Washington State to test the compatibility of a wind/solar energy source, the Oregonian reports.

Life: A poignant story in the Philadelphia Inquirer, tells how a talented student overcome with depression tried to end his life unsuccessfully — he jumped from a nine-story high window, and is now rebuilding his life a day at a time.

O P I N I O N

All the headlines are focusing of Romney’s and Clinton’s wins in Nevada and McCain’s win in South Carolina. Something remarkable happened in Nevada but I have not heard one newscast mention it. Ron Paul came in second to Romney. He garnered 14 percent of the vote — finishing ahead of McCain, Huckabee, Thompson and Giuliani. Well, McCain didn’t spend much time in Nevada, one news story argued. And you wonder why people don’t trust mainstream media? Just because he is not the candidate of choice for the media, doesn’t mean his stunning second place finish should not get their attention.
